Setup a Kitty Korner
Below you will find information about where and how you setup Kitty Korner cat furniture. The setup will take 15 minutes to 1 hour to complete depending on your ability and experience working with hand tools.

Where to setup your Kitty Korner
Here are some guidelines to help you choose a room and a location to set up your Kitty Korner. In general, the location should complement your cats personality. Maybe your cat prefers to be included in everything. He'd like a spot where he can be heard and easily get your attention, or some petting at any point during the day. Or maybe he's more independent or shy, and most often prefers your company from a distance. Here a place not so accessible would be best, somewhere more secluded and off the beaten track.

Two cats play confidently high on the top two perches of this eight foot tall Kitty Korner set on a flat wall.

Choose a room your cat enjoys spending time in.  Most cats will prefer a spot by a window where they have a view of the outdoors, or an expansive indoor view. Avoid small rooms with little entertainment value. The best locations will work for you as well. Do you want it convenient or more out of the way? And will complements the decor and surrounding area. Kitty Korner can be set up inside a corner, around the outside of a corner or flat up against a wall so you should have several choices. Be creative and open and don't be afraid to customize to get the perfect fit.

Once you know where you would like to put your Kitty Korner you then need to consider the location of the wall studs in your chosen area. These will support your kitty Korner and hold it snug against the wall. Most wall studs are spaced 16” apart, and, on occasionally will be a bit closer. A setup inside a corner is easiest because it requires one support stud in each wall that can be anywhere from 12” to 24” away from the corner juncture. A setup around the outside of a corner is almost as simple because the studs that form the corner can be used as support studs on both the left and the right wall surfaces. Although these studs, located only 3-4 inches from the corner, will work and give adequate support, studs that are more than 5” but less than 12” from the corner will work better and should be used. Keep in mind that many of these corners have rounded sheet metal forms placed over the corner studs to get a smooth uniform rounded shape on the corner.

When considering studs to support a flat wall setup there are a few things you should know. 1) A Kitty Korner spans 40” from perch tip to perch tip. 2) A Kitty Korner should be centered over the support studs, and 3) as flat wall setup may use 2 support studs but more often will require 3 studs. Where studs are spaced 16” apart you have the option of using 2 or 3 support studs. When centered over 2 support studs the perches will cross over and attach to the support stud at a point about 12” from its end. When centered over 3 support studs the perches will cross over and attach to the support stud at a point about 4” from its end. The top perch is the only perch that is attached to the middle support stud. When studs are less than 16” apart use 3 studs centering over the two uttermost support studs and making sure the top perch is positioned to cross over and be attached to the middle support stud.

How to set up a Kitty Korner
Your Kitty Korner is shipped with your perches and posts, setup hardware, and setup instructions with illustrations. In order to set up your Kitty Korner you will need to have and know how to use the following tools:
Hammer - Drill - Drill bit - Tape Measure - A Level - Pencil - Scotch or Masking Tape - Stud Finder (useful but not necessary)

To setup cat furniture connect cat perches and cat posts and attach to the wall.
You set up a kitty Korner one level at a time where each level basically involves attaching a perch to a support stud. To do this you mark the perch and the stud at the points where they intersect each other, then screw a metal support piece to the stud and hammer a metal latch piece into the side of the perch. As you push each perch onto the post section below it, you slide the latch piece over the support piece to complete that level.
